MSC Moto, an Australian motorcycle steering damping specialist, has adapted its proven APEX independent handlebar damping system to mountain bikes with the Syncro Dampened MTB Stem. The key innovation uses eight wide-set, custom-cast polyurethane resin bushings that isolate the fork steerer tube from the handlebar, effectively splitting the stem into two separate CNC-machined alloy components: a wide 4-bolt faceplate and a wide 2-bolt steerer clamp. This design dampens high-frequency trail vibrations and impacts before they reach the rider’s hands, with the manufacturer claiming significantly reduced hand and arm fatigue. Tested since January 2025 on some of Australia’s roughest bike parks and trails, the stem delivers “noticeably less harshness” through chattery, high-frequency hits.
The stem is constructed from CNC-machined alloy, available in two lengths (40mm or 50mm) and two bar clamp diameters (31.8mm or 35mm), with a short 34mm stack height. Standard equipment includes red-density polyurethane cones; softer yellow cones are sold separately. Weighing a claimed 265g (for the 31.8x40mm configuration with all hardware), the stem maintains stiffness despite the damping elements and features an anodized silver and black finish with laser-etched graphics.
MSC Moto advertises the system as 100% designed, tested, and manufactured in Australia. The Syncro Dampened MTB Stem retails for A$350 (approximately $245 USD or 220€) and is available directly from MSC Moto, which offers global shipping and a network of international distributors. The product targets riders seeking to mitigate vibration-induced fatigue without sacrificing steering control.
