French para-cyclist Thomas Peyroton-Dartet, 41, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for EPO on September 5 at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. The International Testing Agency announced the suspension shortly after. Remarkably, Peyroton-Dartet went on to win gold in the C3 road race just two days later, finishing ahead of two Spanish riders. He also captured gold in the C3 time trial and silver in the C1-3 road race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. EPO, which stimulates red blood cell production to boost endurance, has appeared in para-cycling before; Poland’s Marcin Polak received a four-year ban in 2022 after three samples tested positive in 2021, with his results expunged. Peyroton-Dartet remains provisionally suspended, and no final sanction has been announced.
