Formula has unveiled its latest suspension fork, the Selva V, designed for all-mountain and enduro riding. Building on the proven Selva platform, the new fork is tailored for the long, rocky, and technical trails of Tuscany and the Mediterranean. Formula claims the Selva V is its lowest friction and most responsive fork to date, thanks to a new air spring, revised chassis, and improvements to the damper architecture.
Key Features of the Selva V
Travel and Chassis
The Selva V is available in three travel lengths: 160mm, 170mm, and 180mm, catering to aggressive riders and demanding terrain. It features 35mm hard-anodized black stanchions made from 7075 aluminum and a hollow forged aluminum crown. The updated chassis includes a redesigned lower leg and increased distance between bushings, which Formula says enhances stiffness compared to previous Selva models.
Boost spacing (15 x 110mm) and an Integrated Locking System (ILS) axle are standard, with compatibility for brake rotors up to 220mm. The fork has a tapered 1 ⅛” – 1 ½” steerer and a 43mm offset, with axle-to-crown lengths increased by 8mm to align with industry standards. An integrated mudguard adds a sleek look while protecting against splatter.
The claimed weight is 2,030 grams for the 170mm travel version (excluding the axle lever and fender).
New Air Spring
The Selva V’s air spring is a standout feature, designed to minimize friction. Formula addresses imperfections in metal that can cause friction at the piston seal by using a floating piston with an elastic mount. This allows the piston to move both radially and axially, compensating for imperfections and reducing friction for a more consistent feel.
The air spring also simplifies setup with a single air valve that inflates both positive and negative air chambers. A concentric bypass valve balances pressures between the chambers, eliminating the need for bypass grooves and further reducing friction.
Proven Damper
Formula has retained its Internal Floating Technology (IFT) damper, a system it has used for over a decade. IFT reduces harshness caused by binding and improves the fork’s ability to absorb impacts.
The Selva V offers 19 clicks of rebound and 12 clicks of compression damping adjustment. For deeper tuning, Formula’s Compression Tuning System (CTS) allows riders to swap out CTS valves to alter compression damping. The fork comes with two CTS valves (blue and gold), with six additional options available for further customization.
Included Extras
Formula includes a generous package of accessories with the Selva V, providing most of what riders need for setup and maintenance. The box includes a shock pump, mudguard, air cap tool, 250ml of fork oil, and 2 CTS valves. This bundling can save riders time and money compared to forks that require additional purchases.
Support and Warranty
Formula backs the Selva V with its 10-year support promise, ensuring parts, spares, and support will be available for at least a decade. Additionally, all Formula products come with a two-year transferable warranty.
For owners of previous Selva forks, the new V air spring is compatible with some older models, offering an upgrade path without replacing the entire fork.
Pricing and Availability
The Formula Selva V is available from today in matte black or matte ultraviolet (purple) lowers. It retails for $1,250 €.
