This was a very nervous moment for the riders at the front of the bunch in Trofeo Palma at Challenge Mallorca

The riders at the front of Trofeo Palma (1.1) on Sunday had to have their wits about them to avoid disaster when a motorbike marshal veered into the road and towards the front of the bunch.

Luckily the riders were able to take corrective action when the incident occurred with 55km to go and nobody crashed.

However, the riders were clearly irate with the officials, with several of then gesturing furiously at the marshal who ended up in the middle of the front of the bunch before pulling to his right and getting ahead of the bunch.

It looked like the motorbike marshal may have been trying to get going before the bunch passed after he stopped on the roadside as part of the rolling traffic duties along the course.

Gerben Thijssen (Intermarché-Wanty) went on to win the race in a bunch sprint from Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility) and Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost).
