A cyclist in his 50s has been left with serious injuries after a road traffic incident in Achill, Co Mayo, with an investigation now underway

Gardaí are investigating a road traffic crash in Achill, Co Mayo, which has left a male cyclist in his 50s with serious injuries. The injured man has been hospitalised and was undergoing emergency treatment on Wednesday.

The Garda team investigating the crash are still trying to determine what happened and have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward and help the investigation.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious single-vehicle road traffic incident involving a bicycle, which occurred on the L1406 Dugort to Slievemore road on Achill, Co Mayo, on the morning of Tuesday 30th July,” the Garda said in a statement.

“A male cyclist (50s) was conveyed to Galway University Hospital for treatment for serious injuries. The road was closed for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, and has since reopened. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

“Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were traveling on the L1406 Dugort to Slievemore road on Achill, Co Mayo, yesterday, Tuesday 30th July 2024, between 9.30am and 12 noon, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.”
