Gardaí have launched an investigation after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a driver in a car in Co Westmeath

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash with a driver in Co Westmeath. Gardaí have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses and any video evidence from the scene.

The crash occurred yesterday at lunchtime, with the cyclist – who is in his 50s – taken by ambulance to hospital, where gardaí said he was being treated for serious injuries.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the Moat Road in Ballymore, Co Westmeath on Thursday,” a Garda statement about the crash stated on Friday evening.

“Shortly before 1.30pm, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a car and a bicycle.

“The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore where he is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.”

Any road users who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
