Cycling is a fantastic family activity, especially when you have the right accessories. The Burley Dash lineup of child seats offers a convenient way to bring your kids along for the ride. With multiple variations to suit different bike setups—whether that’s racks, frames, or, as in our case, the MIK HD (Heavy Duty) rack. This MIK-compatible design shines with its tool-free on/off functionality, making it incredibly user-friendly.
In our review of the Burley Dash MIK HD, we found it checks virtually all the boxes for a great child’s bike seat. It’s lightweight and nearly effortless to attach or remove from your bike, it’s also a breeze to clean—a must when the oft-sticky hands and dirt-stained pants of kids inevitably transfer over. Most importantly, the seat is safe and reliable, offering a snug, secure fit with adjustable features that accommodate little riders as they grow.

Make sure your rack is compatible: there are different versions of MIK racks.
Burley Dash MIK HD Review – Set Up
Fortunately, this is one of those products that’s essentially ready to go right out of the box. Since this model is designed exclusively for the MIK HD rack (which comes standard on some bikes like the Globe Haul LT), all you need to do is line it up, click it into place, and you’re good to go.
The Dash features a lever that snaps audibly into position and is marked with a visible green indicator. This ensures the lever is securely locked and that the button hasn’t been accidentally depressed. Once that’s done, secure the buckle around the seat tube, and the Dash is firmly in place.
Removing the seat is just as straightforward. Simply undo the buckle around the seattube, press the release button, lift the seat off, and voilà—you’re back to a single-person ride.
There’s also the option to adjust the seat’s position on the base plate, which attaches to the rack. This allows you to move the seat closer to or further from the rider, depending on your needs.
To ensure your child is comfortable, adjust the straps to fit them snugly, and take advantage of the four levels of footrest adjustment to match your child’s leg length. The shoulder straps offer two height settings along with the adjusting straps, enabling the seat to grow with your child—provided they stay under the 40-pound weight limit.
Burley Dash MIK HD Review – How It Does On Rides
My kids have complained that their jackets are both too tight and too loose in the same breath—without me adjusting a thing. So, the absence of complaints during our miles on the Dash speaks volumes about its comfort.
The harness fits both my two- and four-year-old snugly once properly adjusted, and the footrests adjust to meet their legs comfortably.
The materials aren’t as soft as those of the Thule Yepp Maxi child seat, but the Dash includes a squishy, Velcro-attached liner that adds comfort and is easy to remove for thorough cleaning.
Speaking of the Thule seat, its backrest features ventilation holes for breathability, which the Dash lacks. While I’m currently testing this in cooler months, I wonder if reduced airflow might lead to sweaty rides during the summer. That said, the Dash’s materials are easier to clean and appear more durable, so there is give and take with either of these popular options.
The armrests keep kids cozy, and there’s ample space behind their heads, so wearing helmets don’t cause any discomfort by being awkwarldy pushed forweard either.
The small pocket behind the seat is a thoughtful touch. Its storage capacity is fairly limited, but it easily holds a Ziploc full of Goldfish crackers or other small items like keys or wallets.
Overall, the build quality and secure attachment points instill confidence in the Dash as a safe product. The reflector on the backside enhances visibility. Some reflective striping along the sides wouldn’t have hurt, but your visible enough as is. For those planning to ride after dusk frequently, adding safety lights at checkout is a smart move.

The Burley Dash MIK HD is an overall a great product. This isn’t something that requires reinventing the wheel—it simply needs to be safe, durable, and practical. The Dash checks each of these boxes, giving parents confidence to bring their kids along for more rides.
If we were to nitpick, we’d suggest offering more color options for a more Dash-ing appearance (I’ll be here all week, folks!). Additionally, for those in hot climates, keep in mind that the seat’s ventilation is limited.
Otherwise, this is a high-quality product that mounts securely to your MIK HD rack (and several other compatible systems). It easily transitions your bike from a commuter to a kid’s chauffeur, ready for fun family cycling adventures.
