What began as a spirited 50-mile bicycle race with a determined group of 40 cyclists, starting from City Market and culminating at the Cameo for an afterparty, has evolved into a monumental, philanthropic endeavor. Co-organizers Kent Eriksen and Scott Flemming, who crossed the finish line within a mere 10 feet of each other during the inaugural race, laid the foundation for a journey that would transcend mere competition and pave the way for community camaraderie

Now with close to 1,000 riders annually and offers five different routes.

.Today, the Tour de Steamboat stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration and service and draws over 1000 riders annually. Additionally, the ride has transformed into a philanthropic powerhouse, making a significant impact by raising over $1.5 million for local area nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving the community over the past 20 years. From its inception, the ride has maintained its commitment to giving back, embodying the true spirit of Routt County, Colorado.

Two new gravel routes to help attract a new generation of riders to the area.

Over two decades, TDS has blossomed to offer five unique routes, including two gravel routes spanning 100 or 50 miles, and three road routes covering 66, 44, and 26 miles. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist seeking a challenge or a leisurely rider looking to immerse in the scenery, the Tour de Steamboat guarantees an experience tailored to your preferences.

Beneficiary nonprofit organizations, including Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC), REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide), Partners Mentoring Youth in Routt County, and SRRA (South Routt Recreation Association), play a pivotal role in organizing and promoting the event. Their dedication ensures the success of the Tour de Steamboat and reinforces their commitment to fostering a healthy community and environment for all.
