Irish sports drama The Racer is to open in Irish cinemas tomorrow Friday December 11th.
The film follows Dom Chabol, a seasoned domestique rider who experiences the most dramatic three days of his life as he faces the end of his time with his team, the end of his career, and even the end of his life, at the opening Irish stages of the notorious 1998 Tour de France.
Louis Talpe (Of Kings And Prophets) stars as Chabol, alongside Matteo Simoni, Tara Lee, Iain Glen, and Karel Roden. It is produced by Ireland’s Blinder Films (Love & Friendship), in coproduction with Calach Films of Luxembourg and US company Caviar (Sound Of Metal).
Helmed by director Kieron J Walsh (The Savage Eye, Finding Joy) the film has been praised internationally for both its accuracy in representing the sport and the incredible performances by the central actors:
“[Louis] Talpe is excellent in the lead, his tightly-honed physique an increasingly transparent veneer for his troubled emotional state… the film keeps him – and us – hermetically sealed in this claustrophobic, stressful environment” – Screen International
Walsh wrote the script with Ciaran Cassidy (Jihad Jane), with Blinder Films’ Katie Holly and Yvonne Donohoe producing and Calach’s Jesus Gonzalez-Elvira co-producing with Caviar’s Robin Kerremans and Dimitri Verbeeck.
The film is supported by Screen Ireland, Film Fund Luxembourg, Eurimages, Screen Flanders, the BAI Sound & Vision Fund, and RTE. Kinepolis Film Distribution will release the film in Benelux.
The Racer is screening in cinemas in Dublin, Cork and Limerick from tomorrow.
