Chris Smart winner of the Emergency Services 12 mile Time Trial Championship at Stamfordham on September 25th; Fiona Prew fastest woman
Result/Report: Emergency Services 12m TT Championship
The Emergency Services held their Championship 10 Mile TT on Saturday afternoon on the M12S around Stamfordham in Northumberland. The course is actually 12 miles long so the riders competing from across the emergency services were getting a little bit more for their money.
Event won by Chris Smart (GTR – Return to Life) in a time of 25:17. In second position was Terry Wilkinson (Barnesbury CC) 26:24 and in third place a mere 1 second behind, Richard Butler (Giant-Kendal RT) 26:25. Chris said after the event “Well, I managed to get clipped in straight away which is always a bonus. I really love this course as it has a bit of everything – twisty corners, descents and climbs. I like courses where you have to have your wits about you and where you have to spike the power as opposed to remaining aero the whole time. Needless to say, I’m not a fan of DC courses. The weather was great today, nice and warm with very little wind”.
Chris is riding again tomorrow in the 25 mile Emergency Services Championship event. Times are combined for the 10 and 25 event – the male and female rider with the lowest combined time will be crowned Male and Female Emergency Services Champion.
In the women’s competition today, Fiona Prew (Stone Wheelers CC) rode to victory in 30:50 to secure the top spot, and in doing so, took 4 seconds off the female course record. Fiona will also be riding in the 25 mile event tomorrow. In second place was Natalie Batey (Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service CC) 32:24 and completing the podium Natalie Mortimer (Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service CC) 34:36.
James Harris of Northumbria Police CC was the fastest rider on a road bike (30:23) for 19th place overall.
