Dates and venues for next season’s National Trophy Cyclocross events and British championships have been announced with Milnthorpe (Cumbria) the location for the British Championships

Following a stellar weekend for British riders at last weekend’s world championships in Fayetteville, British Cycling has revealed that the 2023 National Cyclo-cross Championships will be held at the Westmorland Country Showground in Milnthorpe next January. Back in 2020, organiser Dave Haygarth and his team organised the one and only round of the National Trophy that season at the Showground in a show of determination and expertise to get the job done in the most testing of times.

The championships will take place over the weekend of 14-15 January, following the conclusion of the six-round 2022-23 National Cyclo-cross Series, which begins in October. The venue has successfully hosted a round of the series for the past three years, quickly establishing itself on the national calendar, and the organising team has big plans to take the championships from strength-to-strength in 2023.

The National Series begins in Derby on the weekend of October 8-9, before moving on Falkirk (22-23 October), which successfully hosted its debut National Series event in 2021. The series continues a week later (29-30 October) on a new course in South Shields, at Gypsies Green. Riders will then have to contend with Torbay Velopark – another course new for the series – on 19-20 November, before round five at Broughton Hall in Skipton on 17-18 December. The series then concludes in the new year at Cyclopark in Gravesend, from 7-8 January.

Dave Haygarth of the North West Cyclo-Cross Association is the national championships organiser, and said: “We’re both excited and proud to be stepping up to the 2023 National Cyclo-cross Championships, after three years of hosting some thrilling rounds in the National Trophy series. The venue is perfect for any conditions and we can adapt to make the most challenging course for some thrilling racing. We can’t wait and are planning already.”

2022-23 National Trophy Series:

Round 1: Moorways, Derby: 8 – 9 October
Round 2: Callendar Park, Falkirk: 22 – 23 October
Round 3: Gypsies Green, South Shields: 29 – 30 October
Round 4: Torbay Velopark, Paignton: 19 – 20 November
Round 5: Broughton Hall, Skipton: 17 – 18 December
Round 6: Cyclopark, Gravesend: 7 – 8 January
