Race Report from Mills Trevor

43 riders lined up for the first event of the Ford CC Masters Series for 2023: the first event since 2019 due to the pandemic. The weather was fine and bright with little wind and after 5 laps the EFGH group who had been given a half lap start were caught. On the next lap the first prime was taken by James Mead with the field splitting into several groups. A seven strong group formed and very soon established a 20sec lead over the bunch. The group comprised Paul Hart, James Mead, Matt Holmes, Matt Steel, Paul Turton, Ross Courtnell and Brad Lamb.

Within a couple of laps Lamb was dropped and soon after the second prime was taken by Matt Holmes. With about 10 mins to go before the hour was up Paul Hart escaped on his own. After two laps he was joined by Matt Holmes and James Mead with Steel and Turton chasing furiously behind. At the bell they had caught the leading trio. Paul Hart jumped away in the last km only for Matt Holmes to catch him just before the line to take the win. Marco Coppolo took the bunch sprint with Stephen Piper the first EFGH and Ruth Stapleton the first woman.
