TRP and Classified have officially launched their groundbreaking Vistar Powershift wireless electronic road and gravel bike groupset, which offers a 1x 15-speed or 16-speed drivetrain. This innovative system combines a 12-speed TRP cassette with a wireless electronic Vistar rear derailleur and Classified’s 2-speed internally-geared Powershift hub. The result is a drivetrain that mimics a 1x setup but provides the range of a 2x system, effectively offering 15 or 16 unique gearing combinations. The system is now available for purchase and is shipping to the first customers.
How It Works
The Vistar Powershift setup appears to be a standard 1×12 drivetrain, but the inclusion of the 2-speed internally-geared hub allows for a wider range of gear combinations. Riders can shift manually through all 24 gear combinations (effectively a 2×12 setup) or use the QuantumShift function, which intelligently sequences 15 or 16 gears for a smoother, more intuitive shifting experience. This eliminates the complexity of traditional 2x drivetrain mechanics while maintaining a wide gear range.
Technical Details
The system comes in two configurations:
- 1×15 for gravel: Uses 44-48T chainrings and 11-36T or 11-40T cassettes, offering up to a 520% gear range.
- 1×16 for road: Uses 50T or 52T chainrings with 11-30T, 11-32T, or 11-34T cassettes, providing up to a 450% gear range.
Key features include:
- CNC-machined steel monoblock cassettes designed specifically for the Powershift hub.
- Instantaneous shifting under full load with a 1:1 to 1:0.686 gear ratio in the hub.
- QuantumShift technology coordinates hub and rear derailleur shifts for seamless, logical gear progression.
Wireless and Battery Technology
The system uses TRP’s CMD wireless communication protocol (ANT+ and Bluetooth LE) for connectivity. Components include:
- A removable, rechargeable battery for the Vistar rear derailleur, rated for 10,000 shifts.
- Replaceable LR44 batteries in the bar-end control unit.
- A micro-USB rechargeable battery in the Powershift Smart thru-axle controller.
- The system’s components can be put into deep-sleep mode for travel.
Other Components
The groupset also includes:
- TRP hydraulic disc brakes.
- A carbon TRP Vistar crankset available in 165, 170, 172.5, and 175mm lengths.
Pricing and Availability
The complete TRP Classified Vistar // Powershift groupset is priced at $2,900 / €2,800. It includes:
- TRP Vistar wired shifters, hydraulic disc brakes, and bar-end controller.
- Wireless electronic rear derailleur.
- Carbon 1x crankset with chainring and 12-speed cassette (road or gravel).
