Blix Bikes, the maker of popular commuter, cruiser and fat-tire e-bikes has announced a new addition to their lineup, the Dubbel. Part commuter, part cargo bike and part kid mover, the Dubbel is meant to be a versatile e-bike, suitable to hauling anything someone might put in their car.
It’s a highly intriguing looking bike in the ever-growing utility bike category and the whole Electric Bike Report staff is looking forward to doing an in-depth review of the Blix Dubbel soon.
Blix Dubbel Review: Specs and Features
The bike begins with an aluminum step-thru frame, adds a 750W brushless hub motor, and gives riders a choice for ordering one or two 672Wh batteries. With a single battery, Blix claims riders can cover as much as 40 miles on a single charge; with a second battery, that distance grows to 80 mi. Riders can choose whether to ride it as a Class 2 bike with a throttle and a maximum speed of 20 mph, or as a Class 3 bike with a maximum PAS speed of 28 mph.
Blix says that thanks to its 20 x 3-in. tires, upright position and ability to carry 200-lb. loads, the Dubbel blends both maneuverability and utility. The way the rear rack is integrated into the frame design makes carrying a child practical and convenient.
Between the 90Nm of torque the hub motor produces and the 8-speed drivetrain, the Dubbel is built to get up hills, even when loaded. Zoom hydraulic disc brakes make sure that the e-bike can be stopped, especially when carrying another rider.
Whether equipped with one battery (integrated into the down tube) or two (mounted to the rear of the seat tube), the Dubbel should enjoy a low center of gravity to make it easy to manage in urban settings.
The name Dubbel serves as a nod toward the e-bike’s second passenger / child-carrying ability. Its carrying capacity owes in part to the way the rear rack is integrated into the frame design, giving the bike greater strength and stiffness.
In addition to the integrated rear rack, the Dubbel comes with fenders, front and rear lights, and a motorcycle-style kickstand to make putting kids or groceries on the back easier and safer. Accessories include a pack that fits between the down tube and seat tube as well as a front basket.
Blix also will feature its own app, Blix Connect, on the Dubbel which promises to enhance the rider experience with enhanced ride dta, community features, and over-the-air firmware updates.
Blix estimates that the Dubbel will retail for $1999 with a single battery and $2499 with two batteries. Shipping is estimated to commence in October

Blix’ bent on utilitarian e-bikes owes to founder and CEO Pontus Malmberg’s Swedish upbringing. He grew up in a suburb of Gothenberg, a place where he says bicycles were everywhere. With Blix he hopes to encourage more people to ditch their cars.

Blix Dubbel: EBR’s First Look Review
Blix has built their reputation on bikes that are practical for transportation. Even so, they are stylish machines that ride well and are easy to use. The Dubbel takes the idea of a normal utility bike and stretches it slightly so that a passenger has a bit more room to look around and breathe.
Its carrying capacity and variety of accessories make it easy to customize to an individual rider’s needs. Don’t have kids? That’s fine; this will haul all the groceries someone needs for a week. Easy to load, to unload and to get over a hill, the Dubbel is a terrific substitute for a car. Or at least it is on paper. Make sure to stay tuned for when we do our full review of the Blix Dubbel!
