Leo Doyle has taken his first win of the season, beating the UCD Cycling Club trio of Andrew Ryan, Conor Murnane and Eoin Kelly in Corkagh Park, Dublin, last night.

Doyle (TWC Tempo Veldhoven) got the upper hand at the end of a cold night for racing in the new Starsky CC open Golden League, with Ryan 2nd, Murnane 3rd and Kelly 4th. Both Ryan and Kelly had started in the A2 group in the handicapped race, with Murnane managing to jump across from the A1 group to the A2s.

Doyle bridged the gap himself a few laps later and soon just he and the three UCD riders were leading in a four-man group. While the UCD trio took turns to attack, they couldn’t shake off Doyle.

One of the UCD riders dangled just ahead of the group for a
period but Doyle controlled the gap and then closed it with about two laps to
go. Doyle then attacked on the last lap and when that move was
covered by his three rivals he led out the finishing sprint and won it
comfortably.

Doyle has been going very well of late and his win last night opens his account for the year. He put in a very strong ride at the Des Hanlon Memorial in Co Carlow the weekend before last when he took 3rd place, just beaten in the sprint for 2nd by Murnane after Matt Teggart (WiV SunGod) had taken a solo victory.

In the A4 race last night Deimantas Syvis (Unattached Leinster) took victory from Frederick Roberts (Unattached Leinster) and Lorcan Murray (Ballina Cycling Club).
