For the 2024 model year, Bosch, the world’s leading mainstream electric bike motor and drive system manufacturer, is introducing a host of new products and updates to its eBike systems. This includes a brand-new motor, updated displays, and innovative battery solutions, all designed to enhance the riding experience and keep Bosch at the forefront of eBike technology.

New 2024 Bosch Performance Line SX Motor

Bosch is launching the Performance Line SX motor, its first new motor in several years. This motor is aimed at the lightweight eBike market, competing with models like the Shimano EP8/EP801, Fazua Ride 60, and TQ HPR50. Weighing in at under 2kg, it’s significantly lighter than previous Bosch motors, making it ideal for lightweight eBikes.

Key features of the Performance Line SX include:

  • Power Output: 250W nominal (UK legal limit) with a peak of 600W and 55Nm of torque.
  • Sprint Mode: A new cadence-based assistance program designed to mimic the rider’s input for a more natural and sporty ride, ideal for eGravel and urban riders.
  • Integration: Its lightweight and compact design allow for new integration possibilities with bike frames.

The motor is part of Bosch’s Smart System, ensuring compatibility with the latest eBike technology. It’s expected to start appearing on bikes as early as Autumn 2023.

New 2024 Bosch Purion 200 Display

Bosch is addressing a gap in its product line with the new Purion 200 display. This replaces the older Purion display, which was excluded from the Smart System update, and provides a significant upgrade over the LED Remote used on entry-level bikes.

Features of the Purion 200 include:

  • 1.6" Colour Display: Offers real-time data, a major improvement over the LED Remote.
  • Plug-and-Play: Easily upgradeable for bikes already equipped with the LED Remote.
  • Button Layout: Retains the familiar button layout from the LED Remote for ease of use.

New 2024 Bosch Kiox 500 Display

The Kiox 500 is an evolution of the existing Kiox display, offering a larger screen and enhanced functionality. It’s designed for riders who prioritize navigation and fitness tracking.

Key features include:

  • Larger Display: Improved visibility for navigation and fitness data.
  • Customizable Layout: Riders can tailor the display to show only the information they need.
  • Fitness and Navigation Integration: Compatible with popular fitness apps, allowing riders to track their performance and explore new routes.

New 2024 Bosch PowerMore 250 Range Extender

The PowerMore 250 is a new, portable range extender battery designed to complement Bosch’s existing battery systems. Similar to offerings from Shimano and Mahle, this extender is compact and easy to use.

Highlights of the PowerMore 250 include:

  • Portability: Bottle cage-sized design, weighing just 1.6kg, making it easy to add or remove as needed.
  • Compact Design: Measures 20cm in length and 8cm in width, similar to a water bottle.
  • Versatility: Ideal for longer rides or when carrying heavy loads.

New 2024 Bosch Dual Battery System

Bosch is reintroducing its Dual Battery system, which was briefly absent after the 2023 Smart System update. This system allows for the combination of a PowerTube battery and the new PowerMore 250 range extender, offering extended range capabilities.

Key points:

  • Maximum Capacity: With the 750Wh PowerTube battery, the total capacity can reach 1,000Wh.
  • Range: Bosch claims a potential range of over 200 miles on a full charge.
  • Applications: Ideal for long-distance riders or those transporting heavy goods.

New 2024 Bosch PowerPack 400 & 500 Rack Batteries

Bosch is bringing back the PowerPack rack batteries, which were previously popular on entry-level bikes. These batteries are mounted on the rear luggage/pannier rack and are known for their ease of use and affordability.

Features include:

  • Capacity Options: Available in 400Wh and 500Wh variants.
  • Target Market: Expected to be used on leisure, touring, and hybrid-style bikes, with potential applications in cargo bikes.
  • Cost-Effective: Helps manufacturers keep bike prices down, making Bosch systems more accessible.

Compatibility and Availability

  • Availability: These new products are expected to appear on model year 2024 bikes, starting in Autumn 2023. Separate component sales are likely to begin in Spring 2024.
  • Upgrade Options: The Purion 200 and Kiox 500 displays can be retrofitted to existing Bosch Smart System bikes.
  • Motor Replacement: Upgrading to a new motor is not possible due to differences in mounting points and frame compatibility.

Bosch’s Competitive Edge

Bosch continues to lead the eBike market with innovative, practical, and user-focused products. Their Smart System, combined with features like integrated satellite navigation, fitness tracking, and advanced security systems (
