Max Fitzgerald has taken Team Ireland’s first stage win at the Junior Tour of Ireland after he proved best in the bunch sprint that settled the honours on the fifth day of racing into Gort today.
Fitzgerald, a first-year junior who has already represented Ireland on the track this season, got the better of Caden Budd (Hot Tubes), who was 2nd behind the flying Irishman today.
Gabriel Tilli (Ignite Canada) rounded out the podium with Enzo Edmonds (Hot Tubes) taking 4th place today.
Patrick O’Sullivan (Orwell Wheelers) and Eoghan Lattimore (Tarrant Skoda Munster) were also up in the top 10 today; the two Irish riders placing 9th and 10th.
As Budd had started the day in 2nd place overall, just four seconds behind his Hot Tubes team mate Brendan Luongo, he has taken the yellow jersey due to his time bonus for 2nd on today’s stage.
Budd now leads Luongo by just two seconds with just the final stage to come tomorrow.
More to come.
