Drew McKinley (Newry Wheelers) proved best in the drag race on the uphill finish that settled the honours in the Eddie Crory Cup in Co Down last night.

McKinley was pushed hard by VC Glendale’s Gary Crory – in whose father’s memory the race is held – all the way up the finishing climb in Rafhfriland.

However, after two laps of the Kilcoo circuit, before the race headed for the finish on the third passage of the course, McKinley got ahead and had the staying power to take it all the way to the line.

Crory was a few lengths back in 2nd place, with Curtis McKee (Spellman Dublin Port) putting in one of the rides of the night for 3rd – an U16 completing the podium racing against the seniors.

The Dromore CC duo of Jonathan Coen and Paul Wilkinson were 4th and 5th, with Colum Mackle (Armagh CC) in 6th place and Catherine Sands (Newry Wheelers) leading woman.

In Leinster, the Mondello Series could not go ahead at Mondello Park in Co Kildare last night as work was being carried out on the track at late notice.
