Alice Sharpe, who has twice won the road race at the National Road Championships, and fellow international rider, Caoimhe O’Brien, have both signed for a new British team for 2024.
Sharpe is a key member of Ireland’s team pursuit line-up which has lowered the national record multiple times in recent seasons and is now in a great position to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
However, while those track commitments – starting with the fast-approaching European Track Championships – will be her main focus in coming months, she will also be busy for her road team, created from the merger of two squads.
O’Brien has developed into one of the strongest Irish riders on the road in recent years, winning some of the biggest domestic races and gaining invaluable experience abroad. She competed for Cyclingteam Belco-Van Eyck last year and Torelli-Cayman Islands-Scimitar in 2022.
Both Irish riders will this year compete on the road with DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK, a British UCI Continental team. It has been created by the recent merger of the DAS Handsling and Hutchinson-Brother UK teams.
Sharpe joins the team after riding at World Tour level in 2023. She began the season competing with Israel Premier Tech Roland Development but stepped up to the World Tour line-up in May.
O’Brien was runner-up in the road race at the National Road Championships last year and also won the National Criterium Championships along with several rounds of the Cycling Ireland National Series, including the Des Hanlon Memorial.
