The upcoming St Patrick’s Day Weekend may have a slightly lighter schedule of racing than 12 months ago, but the events on the calendar will be action-packed and should be very well supported.

On Saturday the B9 Energy Storage Tour of Ards is the Ulster scene’s offering while the Lucan GP takes place in Leinster. And on Sunday all eyes will be on Carrick-on-Suir for the Bobby Power Memorial promotion.

Last year the Bank Holiday weekend included both Rás Mhaigh Eo and the Boyne GP. Those events are still going strong, though Rás Mhaigh Eo took place last weekend and the Boyne GP will take place the weekend after next.

However, while those tweaks to the calendar mean there are fewer fixtures all concentrated on the one weekend, it perhaps represents a better spread of racing over the next few weekends.
the B9 Energy Storage Tour of Ards, promoted by Ards Cycling Club, takes place in Portaferry from 10am. Sign on is open from 9am at Portaferry GAC.

There is one race, of 60 miles, being promoted for A1, A2, A3, women and juniors, with the finish on Windmill Hill. You can enter by following this link.

In Dunsany, Co Meath, Lucan CRC will run its Lucan GP, with a large number of races being run.
The day’s action begins early with the U16 race off at 9.30am, to be held over 2½ laps, for a total race distance of 45km.

The A4 race – 3½ laps, 63km – also starts around the same time. And at 10am the women’s race rolls out; also for 3½ laps, 63km.

There is then a trio of races – one for A1s, another for A2s and the third for A3s – all getting underway from 1pm. The A3s do 4½ laps, 80km, while the A1 and A2 races are both 5½ laps, or 98km.

You can enter any of the six races on the ‘Green Sheds’ circuit – a great offering by Lucan CRC – by following this link.

And then on Sunday, Carrick-on-Suir holds the only show in town, with its very popular St Patrick’s Day promotion; the ‘Bobby Power’ featuring three races.

Bobby Power Memorial is for A1s and A2s combined, with the Tommy Sheehan Cup for A3s and the Landy Cup for A4s. They events start at 10-minute intervals starting from 11am, with race HQ at Clonea Power GAA Club.

You can enter any of the three races by following this link.
